A satsuma co*cktail means only one thing.

It really is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s citrus season!

Not only are we right smack dab in the holiday season, but we are approaching citrus season which I am absolutely thrilled about!

Give me all the satsumas and clementines and blood oranges please. Oh and grapefruit! Of course.

I’ll take a little lemon and lime on the side as well. I really don’t discriminate when it comes to these beauties.

What do you do for drinks on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Aside from champagne, which is what we normally do. I’m obsessed with my mistletoe margaritas as well as these Christmas Morning Mimosas and Christmas Tequila Sunrise co*cktails.

There are so many good ones!

And while I occasionally love a good mimosa, I tend to prefer mine with grapefruit. Which is why I’m stepping up my satsuma co*cktail game right now. I wanted to do something with these to really let them shine. Something OTHER than a boring mimosa.

This is a fun co*cktail because you can do it two ways! It’s delicious with both gin and vodka (separately, not together!) so whichever is your favorite? Go for it.

I had my first champagne + vodka co*cktail years ago at the Renaissance Hotel downtown. It was SO good that it made a permanent stamp on my memory. So naturally, I figured I’d prefer vodka with this co*cktail.

But! I tried it with gin too and absolutely loved it. There is a bit of simple syrup in this recipe, but it’s truly a preference on how much based on the sweetness of your satsumas and the sweetness of your bubbly. It’s one of those recipes that you can play around with and add to without ruining it. It’s super refreshing and delicious and even perfect enough to drink on Christmas morning if you’d like!

It’s also kind of like a satsuma co*cktail sangria because you toss some fresh satsuma segments right in the drink and finish things off by snacking on them. They are soaked with the champagne but a bit sturdier than navel orange wedges, so eating one is like a bite of the co*cktail!
