Mushroom Growing Bags (5)

Sorry, there are no products in this collection.

Oak and Spore stock high quality mushroom growing bags for New Zealand.

These grow bags are used in the production of mushrooms, are are designed to hold inoculated substrate. You simply fill the bags with substrate, sterilize, inoculate, incubate, then cut a hole in the bag when it's time to fruit. The mushrooms will grow out of the side of the bag and you will get a high quality crop.

They are autoclavable and resistant to tearing. All mushroom grow bags have a natural failure rate, as we have found these bags to have the lowest rates of all the bags we've used.

Our bags are sold in lots of 10 or 100.

Very happy customer!

My mum bought me this kit in September last year for my birthday. I put it away in the cupboard and forgot about it.

Pulled it out not even a week ago and there are full blown mushrooms coming out of this bad boy already!

So stoked with this product. It’s so exciting to see how much they’ve grown in a day, it would make a spectacular time lapse! Easily the best thing I’ve ever grown!

I’ll be trying another kit soon and hopefully my friends will be too, my daily mushroom updates on my social media have gained a lot of attention!

Thanks so much! :D

I purchased this kit as we love Button Mushrooms and they are expensive to buy. The kit arrived very quickly, the instructions were clear and it is a lot easier to follow than other kits I have tried. Looking forward to sampling my own homegrown mushrooms shortly.

FAQs

Do mushroom grow bags work? ›

Yes, you can grow mushrooms indoors using a grow bag. Grow bags provide a suitable environment for mushroom cultivation by maintaining ideal humidity levels and allowing proper air circulation. They're designed with a sterile substrate that's enriched with essential nutrients for the mushrooms to thrive.

Where is the best place to put a mushroom grow bag? ›

While this can be good, airflow is also important and small enclosed spaces can cause your mushrooms to suffer from lack of oxygen. We recommend placing your grow kit on your kitchen bench, out of direct sunlight.

Why is my mushroom grow bag not growing? ›

Humidity

Proper moisture content within your substrates and a humid growing environment is essential for high mushroom quality and yield. Even short dry spells can cause mushrooms to abort their growth.

How long does it take for mycelium to colonize a bag? ›

Colonization. Colonization occurs after inoculation. This is when the mycelium will start to take over the grain that was inoculated with spores. This period usually lasts between 3 to 6 weeks depending on strain and environmental conditions.

What are the disadvantages of grow bags? ›

What are the Disadvantages of Using Grow Bags? They can dry out quickly, especially in hot weather, requiring more frequent watering. They may not be suitable for plants that require deep soil. Growbags can be easily punctured or torn, which can cause soil to spill out.

Should I shake my mushroom grow bag? ›

You can shake up your mushroom spawn bag when the mycelium has colonized about 40–50 percent of the spawn grain. As mentioned previously, this gives access to non-colonized patches of mycelium. You'll be surprised by how much this simple 30-second action can help your yield.

How do you encourage mycelium to grow? ›

Here are some key factors: 1. Temperature: The optimal temperature for mycelium growth is usually between 24-27°C. 2. Humidity: High humidity levels (around 95-100%) are ideal for mycelium growth.

How do I get the most out of my mushroom grow kit? ›

Give your block some fresh air
  1. Take the mushroom block out of the box (and recycle the box!)
  2. Leave the block in the plastic bag.
  3. Place the block cut side up in a shady area where it will receive rainfall.
  4. Check on the block periodically, especially after rain or humid days.

What speeds up mushroom growth? ›

Gypsum is a mineral that helps speed up the mushroom growing process in small amounts.

Should spawn bags be kept in the dark? ›

Keep your spawn bags in a warm, dark spot (75-77 degrees optimally) and try to leave it alone! Spawn bags colonize from the inside out so you will most likely won't see any mycelium growth for 7-14 days.

Do mushroom spawn bags need light? ›

⇒ Typically most people have always colonized spawn bags in the dark like the jars. Recent testing and research has shown that light doesn't have any effect on colonizing. Since premature pinning before 100% colonization doesn't happen with spawn bags, do whatever is convenient for your setup.

How to water mushroom bags? ›

You don't need to water mushrooms like a plant.

The spray bottle is for creating humidity. Humidity is a key factor for successful mushroom growth. Spray the area around your kit with a few pumps of water whenever you have a chance, at least 2-3 times a day.

How effective are grow bags? ›

Plants Grown in Bags have a Healthier Root System

Fabric pots efficiently keep plant roots pruned and promote a more developed root system with more fibrous growth. These grow bags encourage better-formed root mass helps with nutrient uptake and the plant's overall well-being.

Do mushroom grow kits keep producing? ›

Mushroom kits are not reusable, but most of them produce at least 2 harvests' worth of mushrooms. This means that you can get multiple harvests out of a single kit before needing to replace it. After a mushroom block stops producing, you can bury it to get some more flushes from the soil surface!

Is bagged mushroom compost any good? ›

Mushroom compost should be used with caution due to its high soluble salt levels and alkalinity. These salt levels can kill germinating seeds, harm young seedlings, and cause damage to salt-sensitive plants, like azaleas and rhododendrons. To temper the alkaline levels of mushroom compost, consider using aglime.

Do mushroom CO2 bags work? ›

Nearly all plants growing in an enclosed environment will benefit from the extra CO² exhaled from mushroom CO² bags. It is standard practice for commercial greenhouse and hydroponic growers to supplement their grow rooms with CO². Mushroom bags are the most natural way to generate CO².
