Why we Love Garlic Bread in Foil:

Grilling or baking the bread in a Reynolds Wrap® Non-Stick foil pack keeps the bread soft and moist and helps prevent burning. The foil pack also contains the mess and you can serve the food right out of the foil just like we did with our Foil Pack Nachos.

We love Reynolds Wrap® Non-Stick Foil because it’s sturdy, so you only need a single layer of foil for even cooking. It also makes your prep, serving, and clean up a breeze because the bread and cheese won’t get stuck on the foil.

Garlic Bread Ingredients:

  • Bread – use a fresh loaf of French bread or Italian bread. If you’re feeling adventurous, garlic bread tastes incredible with homemade Crusty French Bread.
  • Butter – we use softened unsalted butter, but salted butter will work if you omit the salt in the recipe. A good quality butter will make the garlic bread taste even better.
  • Seasoning – combining garlic powder and fresh garlic is the secret here making it the ultimate garlic bread. We also love adding freshly chopped parsley for color and flavor.
  • Cheese – mixing parmesan and mozzarella cheese made this a Cheesy Garlic Bread.

Can I Use Day-Old Bread?

Yes – warming bread on the grill or in the oven is the best way to refresh it. I often buy two big loaves of bread and will freeze one loaf right away then thaw and use it for garlic bread another day. It always tastes like it just came out of the bakery.

How to Make the Best Garlic Butter:

The combination of fresh and dried garlic adds amazing garlic flavor without being overpowering. Make sure to finely mince your fresh garlic with a knife which will keep more of its flavor than using a garlic press.

  1. Combine softened butter, chopped parsley, minced garlic, garlic powder and salt.
  2. Mash together with a fork until blended. Easy peasy!

How to Make Grilled Cheesy Garlic Bread:

  1. Cut bread – slice in half lengthwise with a serrated knife.
  2. Apply garlic butter – spread evenly over the cut side of your bread.
  3. Create a foil pack – place the bread, buttered-side-down, onto a large sheet of Reynolds Wrap® Non-Stick Foil. Fold up the sides and seal together then fold the edges to seal.
  4. Grill – on medium heat (300˚F) with the buttered side 5 min. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  5. Add cheese – Carefully open the foil. Using tongs, flip the halves over on the foil and sprinkle the cheese on top. With the foil pack opened, grill another 4-5 minutes or until the cheese melts.
  6. Garnish and slice – remove from the grill then garnish with fresh parsley and slice into breadsticks.

Grilling Safety Tip: food inside a foil pack can create steam which will be extremely hot. Use caution and unwrap food with tongs and oven mitts.

Can I Bake the Garlic Bread in the Oven?

You can follow the same process to bake the garlic bread. Bake with the foil pack directly on the rack at 350˚F for 10 minutes. Open the foil pack, flip the bread over, sprinkle the cut side with cheese, and broil 2-3 minutes uncovered until the edges are golden and cheese is melted.

What to Serve with Garlic Bread:

We love serving this bread with soup and saucy dishes for the bread to soak up the sauce. Yum! These recipes pair really well with garlic bread.

  • Chicken Fettuccine – Mom’s recipe with a light alfredo sauce
  • Creamy Shrimp Pasta – in a rich alfredo sauce
  • Chicken Pesto Pasta – this one trick will change the way you make pasta!
  • Slow Cooker Chili – family favorite beef chili

FAQs

What is the difference between garlic bread and garlic toast? ›

Garlic bread (also called garlic toast) consists of bread (usually a baguette, sour dough, or bread such as ciabatta), topped with garlic and occasionally olive oil or butter and may include additional herbs, such as oregano or chives. It is then either grilled until toasted or baked in a conventional or bread oven.

Why is my garlic bread not crispy? ›

Wrapping the loaf in foil (or parchment paper) ensures this result. For a crispier garlic bread that's more toasted on top, don't wrap and bake for a shorter period (10 to 15 minutes). For another slightly more crisp take on garlic bread, see our basil and cheese garlic bread.

How to prevent garlic bread from getting hard? ›

To keep garlic bread from getting too hard and stale, wrap it in foil or store it in an airtight container. You can also reheat it in the oven or toaster oven to restore its texture.

What's the green stuff in garlic bread? ›

It's parsley

Yep, the green flecks are finely-chopped parsley.

Is French or Italian better for garlic bread? ›

French bread is a great choice for garlic bread as well. French bread has a classic soft interior, with a flaky, crispy crust, similar to ciabatta. Baguettes can also be used for garlic bread, but have a crunchier texture than Italian bread and French bread.

Do Italians do garlic bread? ›

Garlic Bread

The Italians do eat garlic rubbed on toasted bread – with olive oil, not butter – and call it bruschetta. But they will toast an Italian bread such as ciabatta, not a French baguette, as has become popular in the UK and America.

Why is garlic bread so good? ›

Between the garlic, butter, crusty bread, and chopped parsley (the traditional herbed sprinkle of choice), garlic bread is packed with umami flavor. However, the addition of just one scallion (in place of the parsley) adds an herby freshness and a mild onion-y bite that parsley just can't replicate.

Why do you wrap garlic bread in foil? ›

By baking the bread in foil for the first 10 minutes, you allow the ciabatta to soften, which will give you a pillowy, chewy inside. Wrapping the bread also keeps the garlic from burning. Unwrapping the bread and baking it more adds color and will crisp up the crust for the perfect crunchy outside.

How to get garlic bread to crisp? ›

If you like crispier garlic bread, bake it for 3-5 minutes more (but watch it carefully so that it doesn't get too toasted). If you like it softer, take it out closer to 10 minutes. You can also wrap the bread in aluminum foil before baking it if you like softer garlic bread.

Why does my garlic bread taste bland? ›

Failing to use fresh garlic

The only way to produce garlic bread with robust flavor is to use fresh garlic. I'm not talking about the pre-minced stuff you can find in stores, either. Sure, it's technically fresher because it isn't dehydrated, but it still doesn't compare.

How to soften garlic bread? ›

Tip: If your garlic bread is dried out before you reheat it, place a cup of water in the microwave with the bread or wrap the bread in wet paper towels to rehydrate it.

How do you moisten dry garlic bread? ›

Wrap the bread in a damp (not soaking) towel, place on a baking sheet, and pop it in the oven for 5-10 minutes. In the microwave: Wrap the bread in a damp (not soaking) towel, place it on a microwave-safe dish, and microwave on high for 10 seconds.

Does garlic bread need to be refrigerated after cooked? ›

Storage. Garlic Bread is best stored at room temperature – no need to refrigerate. In fact, refrigeration is not recommended, as the bread can dry out quickly and become crusty and even stale. If you need to store the bread for an extended period of time, then freeze instead of refrigerate to preserve its integrity.

How is Texas toast different from garlic bread? ›

If you're a fan of fancy, thick-cut toast, then Texas toast is the perfect slice for you! It has a unique texture compared to regular garlic bread; the crust tends to be soft rather than crispy, while the interior is fluffy, pillowy, and soaked through with butter and garlic flavour.

What is garlic toast made of? ›

Mix butter, Parmesan, parsley, and garlic powder together in a bowl until well combined. Arrange bread slices on a large baking sheet; spread with seasoned butter.

Why is garlic bread called garlic bread? ›

It is said to have originated in Southern Italy as a way to use up leftover bread, which was sliced and rubbed with garlic and olive oil. Over time, the garlic bread recipe evolved as butter, or burro, replaced olive oil, and the bread was toasted or baked instead of being grilled.
