The Department of Radiation Oncology at Boston Medical Center and the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (CASM) is seeking a full-time board eligible or certified Clinical Medical Physicist, which is a newly created medical physicist position. The successful candidate will perform all aspects of therapeutic medical physics support services for the Department of Radiation Oncology in accordance with established professional and departmental standards under general supervision of the Chief of Physics. The department’s oncology and medical physics staff includes 4 faculty radiation oncologists, 4 full-time clinical physicists (including the newly created position) and 4 full-time dosimetrists. Academic appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate or full Professor with Chobanian & Avedisian SOM may be approved for a PhD physicist, which commensurate with the candidate's academic scholarship, teaching qualifications and experience in clinical medical physics.Salary commensurate with credentials andfull benefits are offered.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for quality assurance tasks of all equipment and software including, but not limited to, daily, monthly and annual quality assurance testing (QA); Appropriately documents and tracks quality assurance requirements per national standards and departmental policies; Maintains and documents QA compliance of assigned treatment equipment/software as set forth by the BMC, manufacturer, state and federal government as well as national organizations such as AAPM, ASTRO and ACR; Contributes to academic mission of the department via actively participating in scholarly activities demonstrated by clinical research and development, integration of novel technique and technologies, presentation in national conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals; Takes an active role in current and future educational programs and teaches/mentors students, residents and fellows as requested. Performs in-service education sessions for any members of the team related to specific treatment procedures and techniques; initiates and participates in departmental and hospital quality improvement activities; Designs new Quality Assurance programs for new technologies incorporated into clinical practice for their safe and effective utilization; Develops necessary documentation for appropriate policy and procedures.
Facility and Equipment:
Radiation Oncology at BMC is located in Boston’s Historic South End. BMC is the largest safety net hospital in New England, and the primary teaching hospital of the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian SOM, with a mission of "exceptional care without exception".Our equipment includes 2 Varian Linacs (TrueBeams with AlignRT), CyberKnife S7 (being installed), Varian Bravos HDR, 3D Printer, and Phillips Big Bore RT CT simulator. CyberKnife S7 is being installed to replace the CyberKnife G4 machine. We utilize Varian Eclipse and BrachVision TPS, Accuray TPS, MIM Protégé AI auto-contouring, ClearCheck/EZFluence, RadCalc, SunCheck, and ARIA 15.6 as the record and verify system. We plan to upgrade the Aria/Eclipse to Version 18 in October, 2024.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a Master degree in medical physics or a related field in physical science or engineering, and must be certified in therapeutic medical physics from eitherthe American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) or have successfully graduated from a CAMPEP approved residency program at hire AND passed at least Part I in the board exam on track to be certified within 3 years of hire. Qualified candidates must be proficient in clinical medical physics work for all radiotherapy treatment techniques, including 3D conformal radiotherapy of photon and electron beams, IMRT, IGRT, SRS/SBRT, and HDR brachytherapy. In-depth knowledge of and experience with linear accelerator acceptance testing and commissioning, current technologies, Varian/Eclipse/ARIA systems, MIM image analysis software, and CyberKnife planning and image-guided SRS/SBRT delivery platform is preferred.
